Isola Project (Milano), 2002. Bert Theis (courtesy of @berttheisarchive )
At the moment, the world is under lockdown. Let's rethink this anxiety to keep busy, take a moment, take a breath and take care. Then after we will be able to think how our cities can be happier and healthier places.
"In the neo-liberal stress-society, laziness, for the time being, is not a simple matter. It is, rather, a task that can only be fulfilled with very great effort." - Bert Theis

Museo Aero Solar, 2007 by Tomás Saraceno.
The work was first developed with Alberto Pesavento and Isola Art Center for the exhibition SituazionIsola curated by Marco Biraghi, Maurizio Bortolotti e Bert Theis. Workshops with the neighbourhood was held in the old Stecca which was demolished a week after the exhibition. The Museo Aero Solar has gone on to many other places.
It is a flying museum, a solar balloon completely made up of reused plastic bags, with new sections being added each time it travels the world.
Tomás currently has an exhibition Aria at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence. As part of this show they will also have a workshop dedicated to Aero Solar on the 27th June at Parco delle Cascine.

The architect Yona Friedman passed away this week at 96. Just two years ago he was part of the international jury of our open call Sprouting Minds.
At Isola Art Center we would like to remember him for this contribution and his utopian books, drawings and projects such as “L'Architecture Mobile” which recycled structures of existing cities.
