PERCHÉ NON SONO RIUSCITO MAI A NUOTARE HO DECISO DI VOLARE. PER BERT THEIS
In order to keep alive and reflect on the artistic heritage of Bert Theis, Isola Art Center in collaboration with FM Centre for Contemporary Art and NABA –Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti presents a series of events spanning over two days. During the event, there will be theoretical discussions, exhibitions and an opportunity to interact and exchange ideas with everyone who has known Bert.
The occasion will consist of a series of lectures held by scholars, curators and directors of the most important international exhibitions and museums who have been able to collaborate closely with Bert during the genesis and realization of some of his most famous works (Potemkin Lock, 1995, Venice Biennale / Philosophical Platform, 1997, Skulpture.Projekte Münster / Dialectical Leap, 1998, Manifesta 2 Luxembourg-Treviri / European Pentagon. Safe & Sorry Pavilion, 2007, Place de l’Europe Luxembourg).
The lectures will address the most important theoretical and critical elements of Bert’s works, and explore their important relevance to current affairs, underlining the profound link between his rigorous philosophical approach and an artistic practice that is capable of dealing with the political and social issues of his time. It will also explore his active commitment, through art, to cultivate concrete utopias in real contexts such as Isola Art Center, Isola Pepe Verde and RiMaflow.
The profound relationship between Bert and the new generations of artists with whom he has collaborated through experiences such as Isola Art Center, and his teaching approach and relationship with his students, will be deepened.
A series of informal events will instead be aimed at remembering the person Bert through a series of interventions and testimonies of those who have met him, but also to discuss, confront and reflect together on how to sprout the seeds he planted by keeping alive his important heritage.
