Il Presente Espanso / The Expanded Present, 2’44”, Italy, 2014, by Mariette Schiltz
A Tiger’s Leap wrests shards shivers from the past, unfulfilled, failed and successful revolutionary practices, composes them in the present with new struggles, to invent case by case, constituent powers, new and better forms of conviviality. Isabell Lorey wrote the text “The Expanded Present” for Isola Utopia, in San Mauro Cilento, end of July 2014. Voiceover and translation: Steve Piccolo.
A City of the World (No Tav). 9’00”, Italy 2013, by Chiara Balsamo and Duccio Scotini
is a short film dealing with the political capacity of art in the contemporary world. The film explores personal experiences of protest, confronting agents of the State and questioning the origins of the law. It concludes with the proposal of art as a form of radical questioning which, in its mimesis of political processes can itself propose new social alternatives.
A City of the World springs from a series of encounters which took place in Val di Susa (Italy) and reacts to the numerous arrests that affected the No Tav (No Speed Train) movement since 26 January 2012. Just as in the novel “The Cities of the World” by Elio Vittorini from which the text in the video is drawn – the city is understood an expression of a model of comunitarian living that lends itself to a political project.
